WHY AWARENESS SHOULD START EARLY
Breast cancer isn't something that suddenly begins to matter at a certain age. The habits we chose in our formative years of our lives and the awareness we build translate into what our health can look like later. Most teenagers won't have an understanding of their family history or what behaviors put them at higher risk of breast cancer. Herscreen wants to deliver you the ability to be able to advocate for yourself as you age, and avoid being at a disadvantage when these conversations become important. It is crucial to understand what the other women in your life experience and struggle with. Many people grow up without ever being taught about these topics. Herscreen exists to make that information accessible earlier, so young women can approach their health with confidence, awareness, and can know how to ask the right questions.
Even if you’re older, Herscreen is still for you — because understanding your health as a woman does not have an age limit.
Awareness should not begin at the age of screening - it should begin with education girls around the world deserve.
Behind Herscreen
My name is Zoë
I started Herscreen because I realized something crucial missing from the education of teens. I created Herscreen project to bridge the gap between innovating research and preliminary knowledge a lot of girls arent expected to know until their old. Early awareness shouldn´t start at 40. It should start at 16.
I’m Zoe. I come from two generations of women in women´s healthcare, and I’ve also experienced the devastating reality of breast cancer in my own family. My momom passed away in 2015, due to breast cancer and inevitably brain cancer tumors.
I sometimes wonder whether earlier awareness of lifestyle risk factors and evolving screening tools could have altered the trajectory of her care.
